Richard was born in Caracas and is the grandson of Doña Carmen. His grandmother founded one of the first posadas in Los Roques in 1939, when there were not even airlines with service to Los Roques! His grandfather was the first sheriff in the archipelago. Doña Carmen came from the Margarita Island and her husband was from Caracas. Richard only speaks Spanish, but he can understand a little English if you speak to him slowly. He is married, his wife lives in Caracas and he visits her frequently. His hobbies are diving and going to the beach. He appreciates how tourism has given him the opportunity to meet so many people from other places. He keeps in contact with many of them by Internet. Richard always treats people with respect above all else and he is always willing to answer any questions about Los Roques, as he says "Lo conozco de cabo a rabo!" He knows it from the beginning to the end! So, if you really want to learn about this paradise this is the right place stay!

Posada Doña Carmen has underground rainwater tanks to wash dishes, sheets, floors and to water plants. They have installed energy saving-bulbs, use biodegradable soap, and classify garbage help the urban trash collecting service. They will ask you not to eat lobsters out of season and to put garbage in bags while you are at the beach. In addition, they stress to their guests about the importance of using water and electricity as little as possible at the posada.
